Zunheboto has taken a key step towards the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls with 211 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from six Assembly Constituencies completing a three-day training programme on July 15 as the district prepares for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls Phase III mandated by the Election Commission of India.

Speaking to the media, Assistant Election Officer (AEO), Zunheboto, Bisalee Thonger, said the training was conducted to equip BLOs with the knowledge and skills required to undertake house-to-house verification of electors and other activities under the Special Intensive Revision. He said the BLOs will play a key role in ensuring that the electoral rolls are accurate and up to date.

Thonger informed that a training programme for Supervisors will be held on July 16, followed by a meeting with Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by recognised political parties on July 17 at 11:00 am in the Deputy Commissioner's Conference Hall, Zunheboto.

According to a press note issued by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, the Election Commission of India has directed the conduct of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Phase III in 16 States and three Union Territories, including Nagaland. The exercise has been scheduled in view of the ongoing Census house-listing operation and will involve the participation of electors, political parties and election officials.

The press note stated that all recognised political parties have been requested to appoint Booth Level Agents for every polling station to ensure transparency and active participation throughout the revision process. The qualifying date for the revision in Nagaland has been fixed as October 1.

As per the notified schedule, preparation, training and printing of materials will be carried out from August 5 to 14. House-to-house verification by BLOs will take place from August 16 to September 14, followed by publication of the draft electoral roll on September 20.

Claims and objections may be filed between September 20 and October 20. These will be disposed of by November 18, and the final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 22, 2026.

The Election Commission stated that the Special Intensive Revision aims to ensure a transparent, inclusive and accurate electoral roll through the active participation of all stakeholders.
