Kohima, August 17 (MExN): The First Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Conference of Nagaland cum Live Surgery Workshop was conducted on August 15 and 16 in Kohima, bringing together leading surgeons and specialists to highlight the scope of this surgical speciality in the state.
The event was organised by the Department of Surgery, Putuonuo Hospital, Kohima, in collaboration with Plastic Surgery Foundation Mumbai and the Association of Surgeons of Nagaland. According to the organisers, the objective was “to create awareness regarding the basics and scopes of this diverse surgical speciality amongst the surgeons, and general medical fraternity, and to enhance the quality of patient care in the state.”
The conference featured a distinguished faculty of national and regional plastic surgeons, including Dr Amresh S. Baliarsing from Bombay Hospital, Breach Candy Hospital and Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai; Dr Nilesh G. Satbhai from Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai; Prof. Dr Dushyant Jaiswal from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai; Prof. Dr Akoijam Ibohal Singh from RIMS, Imphal, Manipur; Dr Choden Norbu from STNM Hospital, Gangtok, Sikkim; Dr Badamutlang Dympep from NEIGRIHMS, Shillong; and Dr Nehar Sinam from RIMS, Imphal.
The scientific sessions covered a wide spectrum of plastic surgery applications in general surgery, trauma, pressure sores, birth anomalies, chronic ulcers, cancer surgery and aesthetics. A Live Surgery Workshop was also conducted at Putuonuo Hospital in line with National Medical Commission guidelines, with approval from the Nagaland State NMC. Organisers said that all eight operated patients received “100% free of cost surgery and treatment (all inclusive).”
The conference recorded a response with 85 registrations. On Day 1, 81 participants attended, while Day 2 saw 71 participants. Attendees came from 28 hospitals and medical centres across the state, including Kohima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Zunheboto and Peren, as well as from Guwahati.
Surgeons from various specialities, orthopaedic surgeons, paediatricians, ENT specialists, ophthalmologists, dermatologists, physicians, MBBS medical officers and surgical trainees took part, making the event a landmark first for Nagaland.
