Peren, February 7 (MExN): The College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Jalukie, Peren district, on February 7 organised a Kisan Goshti-cum-Input Distribution Programme on “Smart Livestock Farming for Higher Productivity” at Mhainamtsi village in Peren.
The programme was funded by the ICAR–National Meat Research Institute, Hyderabad.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Jalukie, Peren, Albert Ezung attended the programme as the chief guest. Dean of the College Dr I Shakuntala and Dr K L Meena, Principal Scientist and Head, ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Peren were also present.
Addressing the gathering, Ezung expressed appreciation for the College’s contribution to the development of livestock farming in the district. He stressed the need for farmers to adopt scientific methods for the holistic development of agriculture and allied sectors.
Dr Meena urged farmers to take advantage of KVK services and avail information on improved varieties of crops such as pulses, paddy and potatoes. In her welcome address, Dr Shakuntala highlighted the extension activities undertaken by the College to improve livestock farming and production through scientific approaches.
Dr Uttarani Maibam, Assistant Professor, Veterinary Public Health and Convener of the programme, proposed the vote of thanks.
The programme was followed by a technical session and farmer–scientist interaction. A total of 256 participants attended the programme, including 213 farmers, 40 officials of the College and three Gaon Bura members of the village.
As part of the input distribution, 1,000 chicks and 500 kg of poultry starter feed were distributed to 65 farmers.
An animal health-cum-awareness camp was also conducted alongside the programme, during which veterinary medicines, minerals and vitamins were distributed to livestock farmers. A total of 115 farmers benefited from the animal health camp.
