30 arrested, 9583 bottles seized in 2-hour drive against illegal liquor

KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 24 (MExN): Thirty people were arrested and nearly 9583 bottles of liquor of various brands were seized from across Nagaland during a two-hour state-wide surprise checking of all suspected place selling/storing illegal liquor, Nagaland police said on Tuesday.

The drive was a coordinated effort of all District Executive Forces (DEFs) and different battalions of Nagaland Armed Police and Indian Reserve Battalions, a press report from the police informed on Tuesday. 

A total of 28 cases were registered in various police stations and 30 people were arrested under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1989. 

The fight against sale of illegal liquor can come to fruition with the co-operation from the public, the police said. It has sought the participation of all citizens in checking flow and sale of liquor by giving information to the concerned SPs of the respective jurisdiction or to the police HQ about any related illegal activity taking place.
