Shillong, Jul 26 (MExN): The Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Project Empathy, screened the documentary ‘Weaves of Empathy: A Journey into Naga Oral History’ at the Headquarters Directorate General Assam Rifles (HQ DGAR) in Laitkor.
The event, held on July 25, was attended by Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, AVSM, VM, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command, as the Chief Guest, alongside Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of Assam Rifles, senior military officers, media personnel, students, and distinguished citizens of Shillong.
A press release received here stated that conceptualised by Vibha Lakhera, founder of Project Empathy, and directed by Parasher Baruah, the documentary explores the oral traditions, resilience, and cultural heritage of the Naga people. It weaves together voices of community elders and the younger generation, focusing on themes of empathy, reconciliation, and the urgent need to preserve indigenous knowledge systems.
Speaking after the screening, Lakhera emphasised that storytelling serves as a powerful tool for fostering empathy and strengthening social cohesion, adding that such narratives are vital for bridging generational and communal divides.
The Assam Rifles Public School Choir, under the direction of music teacher Mahai, performed Walk With ME in its first public outing. The song, born from Project Empathy’s Naga Oral History Project, is being positioned as India’s ‘Empathy Anthem’ – a musical plea for compassion, resilience, and non-judgmental solidarity.
