Chrism Mass for Catholics

Dimapur, April 18 (MExN): The Catholic Association of Nagaland will be celebrating one of the most important Liturgical celebrations of the year, the Chrism Mass, the celebration of the annual renewal of priestly vows by the priests.
The CAN issued a note today explaining the significance of the event. “The Catholic provides this wonderful moment when in the presence of the faithful the Priests publicly renew their vows and strengthen her priests.  This, in a liturgical atmosphere, also serves to stir a deeper sense of understanding and appreciation within the Church of the gift of Holy Orders. It is an opportunity for Catholic parishioners to thank, affirm and share their love and support for our priests.”
The second focus of the celebration is the blessing of the “Holy Oils to be used in the Liturgical Year following Easter,” the association stated. In this celebration, the bishop blesses the Oil of Catechumens, the Oil of the Sick, and the Chrism Oil.  “This is another reason why it is so important that the local church be well represented at this Mass, because the Chrism Mass is a sort of “font” from which flows essential elements that will touch the sacramental life of the Church in the coming year.  It is a Mass which not only symbolizes, but “forges” the unity of the church.”
The Catholic community honors those who have dedicated their lives to Jesus Christ and the Catholic church “through the Sacrament of Holy Orders” ‘This is a moment for all the faithful of the Church, the laity, to thank, affirm and share our love and support for all our priests, diocesan as well as those in religious orders,’ the association said.
“We humbly and with immense happiness join the thousand of Catholics in taking a day to especially recognize our priests who so faithfully serve us by providing the Sacraments, spiritual guidance, education and love as a daily gift. We acknowledge the priests who have been an important part of our lives: our pastors and associate, our priest who witnessed our marriage, baptized our children, provided consolation during the loss of a loved one, to name a few.”
The association thanks God “for our priests” and prays that they may be holy and competent pastors, capable of leading even in the complex and difficult times. “We pray for them that their faith may not fail, that they may feel themselves surrounded by the caring love of their people and of the whole church. We also implore upon them to have us, their children, in their prayers and share their blessings with us for they are specially blessed and hence chosen to lead God’s people.”
