Cong vets NPF for trivalizing deaths

Dimapur, May 3 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee has hit out at the Naga People’s Front (NPF) for calling casulties and deaths during the DAN regime as “microscopic”.
“The phrase clearly showed what scant regard they have for human life. The comment deserved condemnation from all because no life lost is microscopic. It is inhuman to view lives lost as mere casualty figures,” the media cell of the NPCC stated in a rejoinder today.
As the NPF is so obsessed with comparative casualty figures between the Congress and DAN regimes, the Congress stated, the high casualty figures during the Congress rule occurred interestingly when the present Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio was Works & Housing minister from 1993 and 1997 and Home Minister till 2002.
“The NPF should ask its Chief Minister as to why such high casualties took place. They should also ask T.R. Zeliang, Shri. G.Kaito and Shri. Doshehe who were all Cabinet Ministers in the, then Congress ministry.”
The NPCC’s repeated in reminder to the NPF – “The NPCC’s contention was not the casualty figures but the claim of the NPF that Nagaland is one of the most peaceful states in the entire country. The NPCC had never made such claim.”
The NPF is also reminded that during the time of the Congress, casualties took place when the state was at the peak of factional clashes without ceasefire in place. “In contrast, casualties have taken place during the NPF-led DAN government despite having ceasefire. If the NPF’s claim of peaceful situation was true, why did they try to hide the casualty figures for the period from 2003 to 2008? Wasn’t that a case of selective amnesia?”
The NPCC also reiterated that the ad-hoc municipal and town councils are unconstitutional and illegal because it had violated the constitutional provision laid down in the Municipal & Town Councils Act, 2001 and running the ad-hoc councils beyond the permitted six months’ duration.
Likewise, the Congress said the NPF president Dr. Shurhozelie touring the state to ‘elicit opinion of the public’ on the 33% reservation for women is a reverse exercise given the fact that the DAN regime had already adopted the bill on the floor of the 11th house. “If the DAN government was of the considered opinion that the present exercise was paramount, why had the DAN government adopted it first? It is just like putting the cart before the horse. It is wastage of public money on traveling expenses of the minister and his entourage.”
On corruption in the government, the Congress said graft is the hallmark of the NPF-led DAN government. “If it has the probity to deny the charges of corruption, why has the NPF abruptly stopped throwing its salvo at NPCC on corruption charges against the Minister of SE & SCERT Shri. Nyeiwang Konyak? Does the NPF think the NPCC will give up the charges because the NPF has maintained silence? The NPCC will not rest till its demand for his removal and thorough investigations are met,” the Congress stated in assurance.
The NPCC also referred to issues in contention for some time now with the NPF including rhetric on the naga political issue, the NPF media bureau’s ‘obsession with the “Delhi high command rhetoric,” the Ao tribe celebrating Moatsü festival and issues related to “infringement on Article 371 (A)” as alleged by NPF.
The Congress added a response to the NPF drawing parallel between the NPCC and Hindu festivals such as Holi, Diwali, Durga Puja, etc. “The Home Minister and NPF Associate Press Secretary had violated the secular ethos of the constitution and committed the highest degree of anti-constitutional crime,” the Congress reminded the NPF. “The undermining remark made on ECI as “a very ordinary authority”, by Shilumar Ao, showed his total ignorance about election laws because during election time, ECI is the supreme authority,” the NPCC added.
