Minister chairs high-level meet on manpower, oxygen, surveillance status

Kohima, June 9 (MExN): The Nagaland Department of Health and Family Welfare on Monday convened a high-level meeting to review the state’s preparedness in managing the current COVID-19 situation, with officials reporting that cases remain mild and under control.

The meeting was chaired by Health and Family Welfare Minister P. Paiwang Konyak at the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, and was attended by the Commissioner and Secretary, Director and Heads of Departments, and other senior officials.

The minister spoke on the need for “continued vigilance, sustained surveillance, and robust public health measures” across all health units in the state. A comprehensive review was conducted covering manpower availability, supply of medicines and consumables, oxygen readiness, Rapid Response Teams, and surveillance mechanisms.

Officials stated that the current COVID-19 strain circulating in Nagaland appears to be of a mild category, and that the department is closely monitoring developments on a daily basis. “The Department is well prepared to handle any eventuality to combat COVID-19,” the press release stated.

While reassuring the public that the situation across the country is not alarming, the department advised citizens not to panic but to strictly adhere to COVID-19 protocols, including respiratory and hand hygiene.

As part of the strategy, testing will be conducted on all cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) and 5% of hospitalized cases of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI), following guidelines issued by the Government of India.

Commissioner and Secretary Anoop Kinchi, IAS, reaffirmed the department’s commitment to proactive response and preparedness, noting that public cooperation would be crucial in keeping the state safe.
