Dimapur, June 13 (MExN): The Duncan Basti Council (DBC) in a press release extended their support in the ongoing agitation in regard to the change of name for polling station 11 and 12 under Dimapur-11.A/C. to Industrial Village, Razhuphe and to retain its original name as ADC Court Lengrijan.
Bendang Longkumer, General Secretary Duncan Basti Council, Dimapur stated that Duncan Basti has joined and is a part of the Joint Forum comprising six villages/colonies : Hill View, industrial Estate Colony, Lengerijan Ao Kong colony, oriental colony and Duncan colony. According to him, the polling station in Duncan Basti is divided into two: Duncan Basti Govt. L.P School and Govt. College, Dimapur. Regarding this he added that since the Govt. College area has been claimed by T.L Angami as Industrial Village, Razhuphe area the Duncan Basti People firmly objected to the change of its nomenclature.
He mentioned that Duncan Basti was established in the year 1950 with the permission of Duncan, the then Deputy Commissioner of Naga Hills, Kohima and the village was named after him. Pointing out that the boundary pillars had been erected in every corner of the village, the press note stated that the question of encroachment was impossible.
The statement in the press release further stated that T.L Angami and his party in the month of May, 2011 has “trespassed and encroached” into the jurisdictions and collected a sum of rupees 500 from each shops replacing the sign boards from Duncan Basti to Industrial Village, Razhuphe. A sum of rupees 100 was also taken as a fine from the shopkeepers who refused the orders to replace the sign boards.
The Duncan Basti Council (DBC) strongly condemned and objected to such illegal and forceful encroachment done by T.L Angami to claim Duncan Basti as his own area. The Council has affirmed and asserted that not even an inch of the village will be parted to any “greedy and land grabbing” individual/organization now or even in the near future.
