Dimapur, May 2 (MExN): The Aonglenden NPF candidate, Toshipokba Longkumer along with his family have appealed to the each and every voter of the constituency not to sell their rights.
In a press statement, the candidate stated: “As the day approaches for you to make a decision once again, I want to impress upon your magnanimous minds that every single vote counts in the fight against individuals and forces that are bend on subverting social and political systems to enforce tyranny and political monopoly. Be wary of those leaders who will sell out anything, including their own birthrights, to please their remote masters; under such leaders we become just hapless victims and pawns. Do not let them blind you with the colour of money, it is not just votes they want to buy, they want your Naga identity as well. Look back into history and it will teach you lessons.”
Reflecting back to the years, he also that he does not wish to undermine the assertive minds and intellects of the people by narrating the "horrific details of incidents" that had not only plagued the land but had also marginalized the society and lives in the recent past; nor mention the leaders and regime that allowed those ugly chapters of history to be written to feed their selfish ends.
“Those were the times when we were compelled to worry about survival and security instead of progress and development. God is good, for he had decreed those evil times and leaders to the past and has given us visionary leaders, like Shri. Neiphiu Rio and Shri. Shurhozelie today, to lead us towards peace and progress.”
The candidate also questioned: “Would you like Nagaland, especially Mokokchung, to roll back to those years when voices, yours and mine, were muffled with the barrels of the gun? When even dogs dreaded to venture out by dusk? When owing a car was more of a burden than a blessing? When you were treated like an unwanted stranger in your own home? When you felt more like a slave than a citizen in your own town? Dear voters, you are well aware about those gun-trotting elements that are lurking in the vicinity of Aonglenden even as the polling day approaches, it would be wise to question why they are making this sudden appearance again. But my question to you is will you vote their master to power again?”
He further added: “You need NPF as much as NPF needs you. Keeping NPF in power is keeping yourself in power, because to NPF, you are the highest command under which it strives and thrives! Its ultimate strength rests with the people, the more powerful the people, the more powerful the party. I and my family, therefore, sincerely appeal to you to cast your precious vote in favour of NPF on the 7th May 2011. Let us all lend a helping hand to DAN Government in its attempt in reshaping Naga destiny.”
