The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Don Bosco College, Kohima (DBCK), in collaboration with MY Bharat under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, organised Khelo India Samvaad – “Khel Ki Baat PM Modi Ke Sath” on August 27 in observance of National Sports Day.
The programme, held in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building a fit, disciplined and sporting nation, connected students with his virtual address and placed youth aspirations at the centre of the development agenda.
An interactive session was held with distinguished athletes M Linshilo Yimchunger, silver medallist at the Nagaland Olympics 2024 and the All India Inter-SAI Archery Tournament 2026, and Kezevituo Vizo, Football Coach, Khelo India Centre, Kohima.
The discussion focused on sports infrastructure and challenges faced by young people pursuing sports. Drawing from their experiences, the speakers stressed the need for improved facilities, resources and greater opportunities for youth participation and holistic development in sports.
Vihezonuo Khezhie, Onghsen Phom and Müdovelü Keyho, all fifth-semester students, shared their ideas on “Building a more civics-minded youth”, “Future-ready youth, skills beyond the classroom” and “Making MY Bharat a stronger platform”, respectively.
Students also took a collective pledge for “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” and reaffirmed their commitment to building a drug-free youth force for a developed India.
The proceedings were chaired by Nutsolu Swuro, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, with MY Bharat Volunteer Avino Zumu serving as moderator.
Two emerging DBCK athletes were felicitated. Rüduolhounuo Rachel of the Department of Sociology, fifth semester, secured second position in the 100m race at the Khelo India Tribal Games 2026 at the national level, while Vichaduonuo Rame of the Department of Political Science, first semester, finished second runner-up in the singles category at the Nagaland Open Table Tennis Championship 2025.
Students were also encouraged to register on the MY Bharat portal.
District Youth Officer, MY Bharat Kohima, Pradeep J, and State NSS Officer Nagaland, Ruokuovituo Zatsu, were present.
National Sports Day is observed annually to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand and reaffirm the country’s commitment to sports, fitness and excellence.
The programme concluded with participants visiting Mez & Co, a local futsal turf, for a recreational sporting session.
