Efforts are being undertaken to contain the wildfire which started on January 25 at Dzükou valley, Nagaland with both state government agencies and local authorities undertaking joint surveillance.
Kohima Deputy Commissioner Henok Buchem informed that IAF helicopter with bambi bucket undertook operations to help douse the fire on January 30. The same will continue on January 31, it was informed.
The Nagaland State Disaster management Authority, SDRF, Police, drone operators and Southern Angami Youth Organization volunteers are engaged in assisting the operations on a daily basis.
The DC informed that the wildfire is now concentrated primarily around the Dzükou helipad area.
SAYO President Zasitsolie Beio informed that the fire at Mt. Tempü has been doused and no fresh smoke was seen in the area as indicated by the drone survey.
The DC meanwhile said that a team has reported back from the fire incident site at the Southern Dzükou, and a review meeting was held at the DC’s residence this evening to take stock of the situation.
The central Dzükou valley remains untouched by the fire so far.
With ongoing active intervention by the IAF helicopters, containment is expected to be achieved, and operations are to continue tomorrow. In the meantime, the surveillance team will continue to monitor and assess the situation from the location.
The SAYO informed that trekking to Dzükou valley continues to remain suspended until further notice.
