Nagaland Advisor for Civil Administration Works Department (CAWD) Kudecho Khamo on July 11 said entrepreneurs are the engine of a nation's progress and development and called for greater support to entrepreneurship to generate employment and strengthen the economy.
Khamo was addressing an Entrepreneurs' Meet at Chozuba town, organised under his Local Area Development Programme (LADP) initiative for the 18th Chozuba Assembly Constituency, which he represents.
He said every profession has its own merit but entrepreneurship remains a relatively new concept for many people as it requires creativity, innovation and a willingness to take risks.
Describing entrepreneurs as key contributors to nation-building, Khamo said they create employment opportunities and contribute to economic development through the payment of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
"The world belongs to entrepreneurs," he said, adding that understanding people and development is essential for progress.
Khamo said nurturing entrepreneurship through guidance, support and promotion forms part of his personal vision as well as that of his party, and encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to pursue innovation.
He said many people attribute their lack of success in business to financial constraints or family circumstances, but stressed that every individual has the ability to think and innovate. "Thinking is the capital, enterprise is the way, and hard work is the solution to life's challenges," he said.
Emphasising the importance of determination, Khamo said a willing heart is essential for success and urged capable and talented individuals to enter the business sector to drive transformation.
He also called for a movement to promote locally produced goods so they can access markets beyond Nagaland.
Describing the Chief Minister's Micro Finance Initiative (CMMFI) as a viable scheme for aspiring entrepreneurs, Khamo encouraged participants to utilise it to establish and expand their businesses. He also urged them to take advantage of opportunities under the Nagaland Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Mission (NSEDM).
Calling on entrepreneurs to maintain a positive attitude, Khamo advised them against unrealistic expectations and pessimism, urging them instead to remain focused, work hard and strive for success.
He further identified food processing and food-based products as business sectors with significant growth potential.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Vevohu Epao, president of the 18th Chozuba Assembly Constituency unit of the Naga People's Front (NPF), who lauded Khamo's initiative to support the business community and promote entrepreneurship. He also encouraged participants to make the best use of the opportunities available.
The programme was chaired by Razukuyi Khusoh, president of the Youth Wing of the 18th Chozuba Assembly Constituency NPF, and concluded with an interactive discussion featuring Sevonyi Keyho, chairman of the Chozuba Town Council, and Thepukrayi Nienu, general secretary of the 18th Chozuba Assembly Constituency NPF.
