'Extend cooperation for EPIC campaign success'

Kohima | May 30  : State’s Chief Electoral Officer J.Alam today appealed to all the village council, GBs, town councils, Hohos, churches, political parties, NGOs, students bodies and all concerned to extend there co-operation for the success of photography campaign on Electoral Roll Photo Identity Card (EPIC) and photo electoral roll (PER) in state.
Alam said the campaign will be formally launched on June 1. The photograph of the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will be taken at his residential office at 8: 30 AM on June 1.
Addressing press conference here today, Alam said the campaign for phase-I have been scheduled from June 1-26 while the second phase will take place from July 2–27.
Necessary ground work for the campaign had been started earlier like developing software and other technical works. The state level Masters Trainers Training and District booth level officers training, Software development customization, verification of control table data had been
successfully completed.
Further, 295 cameras had had been supplied to all the districts to carry out the campaign. The entire exercise is scheduled to be completed by September 30, Alam said.
He also said in view of the campaign, the Election Commission has directed the state government not to carry out transfer and posting of officers involved with photography campaign till its completion.
Photo ID is a powerful tool for citizen empowerment, the CEO said, and hoped that the exercise will achieve good success.
Earlier, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) expressed delight on the decision made by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to organize a nation-wide photography campaign and observed that the E.P.I.C. campaign would insure the implementation of the norms and guidelines of the Election Commission and fulfill the fundamental objective of the Indian Constitution in letter and in spirit. This photography campaign, says NPF is a welcome step in the right direction where violation of the ECI guidelines will be prevented.
