GNNC/DSRN seeks RIIN implementation

KOHIMA, OCTOBER 29 (MExN): The Government of Naga National Council, Democratic Socialist Republic of Nagaland (GNNC/DSRN) has called for the immediate implementation of the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN), protection of indigenous rights and greater accountability in appointments within the NSCN (IM) leadership.

A press release from the MIP of the GNNC/DSRN said that “the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) must be implemented in Nagaland without further delay.” It raised concerns over employment opportunities for Naga youth, particularly in Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland, and questioned the state government’s silence on the issue. “Nagaland Government is answerable,” it stated.

The statement added, “Naga youths are struggling to find jobs in their own homeland, and many are compelled to go outside Nagaland in search of employment.” It further asked, “If we Nagas do not give fair opportunities to our own people in our own land, who will protect the future of Naga youth?”

On the issue of Sunday shop closures, the organisation said that if a closure had been called in observance of faith or community values, it should be received with “understanding and mutual respect rather than unnecessarily opposing it.”

Questions NSCN (IM) appointments
The statement meanwhile raised questions over the reported appointment of Keviletuo Kiewhuo as go-between in the Indo-Naga peace talks, reportedly replacing Gen (Retd) Anthony Ningkhan Shimray as coordinator. Questioning the selection process, it asked, “How was this important position decided?” It also sought clarification over allegations of financial influence in appointments, while calling for the concerns to be examined impartially. The organisation stated, “The leadership must ensure that national positions are filled on the basis of merit, experience, commitment and genuine service to the Naga people.”
