Kohima | June 4 : Parliamentary secretary for social welfare and women development Chotisuh Sazo today asserted that the state government was giving due attention for the promotion of music and Naga culture under the visionary and dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.
Speaking at the 3rd award ceremony of Late Rev. Dr. Neiliezhü Üsou’s Memorial Award for Music, Sazo said the Music Task Force have also been formed in this regard and expressed happiness that Naga youth are also getting awards in the national level.
“Our youth should also come forward and explore their talents or gift that God has given to you,” Sazo encouraged the Naga youth.
He also congratulated the recipient Zekope-u from G.Rio School for getting the prestigious award also and the music teachers of G.Rio. School, Kohima.
Sazo maintained that today there is a lot of scope for musician to earn, to employ themselves and others and to become a professional musician. It has become an industry.
“It is not only in the Church we sing, but there is demands both in times of joy and sorrow, every function , party or in any gathering whether on the street, on the courtyard or inside the House,” he said adding that there is no boundary in music.
Sazo congratulated the organizers, particularly the family of Late. Rev. Dr. Neiliezhü Üsou for initiating the prestigious award to encourage the younger generation in the field of music.
The parliamentary secretary said that Late Rev. Dr. Neiliezhü Üsou was not only a lover of music but he knows music and he could sing even folksongs of all Naga tribe.
“Today, he is no more with us but the work done by him and the legacy he created will ever remain with us,” he said.
Sazo maintained that Nagas love music, adding that it have different tribes, community and variety of culture, language and traditions but one common thing in them is the love of music, which he said can unite the Nagas.
Kaisa Rio, lady wife of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also attended the function.
The recipient of the award- Zekope-u carried a certificate along with a cash prize of Rs. 15,000. This award is instituted with the approval of Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) and is conferred to those who secure distinction in the subject of music in HSLC Examinations.
The programme, organised by Rev. Dr. Neiliezhü Üsou’s Memorial Society, was chaired by Megovono Üsou.
Special songs from School of Music, MHBHSS, G. Rio School, Üsou’s family, Üsou’s Instrumental also marked the occasion among the others.
