Nagaland’s lone Lok Sabha Member of Parliament, S Supongmeren Jamir, has expressed hope that the State Government will formulate a positive policy on job reservation in Nagaland.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the World Environment Day programme in Kohima today, he noted that the '5 Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy'  (CoRRP) had pointed out that the reservation policy has not been reviewed for “over 40 years.”

“Now, it is a policy matter. I believe the State Government also has good intentions to provide equal opportunities to all citizens of the state,” he stated.

When asked about the Congress party’s position on reviewing the reservation policy, Jamir, who is also the president of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), said, “Reasonably, it should be reviewed to ensure equal opportunity.”

The push to review Nagaland's reservation policy intensified following the formation of the CoRRP in August 2023. The committee was constituted by five apex tribal bodies — Ao, Sema, Lotha, Angami, and Rengma.

On June 3, the committee decided to keep its second phase of agitation in abeyance until June 17 after the State Government assured that the demands outlined in CoRRP’s memorandum dated September 20, 2024, would be placed before the next Cabinet meeting.

During a consultative meeting held in Kohima on Tuesday, the State Government reportedly also conveyed that its decision — including the setting up of an Independent Commission on Reservation Policy — would be communicated to CoRRP within the next fortnight.

Meanwhile, commenting on the opposition INDIA bloc’s demand for a special session of Parliament regarding Operation Sindoor, Jamir informed that the session is already scheduled to commence on July 21.

“It is already convened from July 21 and will continue into August. So, I believe all these issues will be brought up and discussed in Parliament,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Jamir launched the state-wide “Clean and Green Nagaland” campaign under MPLADS 2025–26.
