Zunheboto, August 28 (MExN): The Medical Department will be conducting a Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Vaccination Campaign in Zunheboto district, with eligible beneficiaries encouraged to avail the vaccination, according to a circular issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Zunheboto.
“The campaign aims to protect eligible girls against cervical cancer, commonly referred to as womb cancer,” stated a DIPR report. The circular stated that HPV vaccination provides 93% to 100% protection against cervical cancer and has been used in more than 160 countries since its introduction in 2006.
According to the Medical Department, the HPV vaccine has been used extensively and has no reported impact on fertility or future pregnancies. The circular also highlighted that the vaccine has been available in private hospitals since 2008, with more than 50 crore doses distributed.
The vaccination is available for girls aged 14 years, specifically those who have already celebrated their 14th birthday but have not yet celebrated their 15th birthday.
Beneficiaries are required to bring their Aadhaar Card/Birth Certificate at the time of vaccination for verification.
The circular further stated that while the vaccine is relatively expensive in private hospitals, with a single dose costing around Rs 5,000, eligible beneficiaries under the campaign can avail the vaccination through the government programme.
