IMFL, ganja worth Rs. 56 lakh destroyed in Kohima

A huge quantity of seized IMFL and contraband Ganja worth over Rs. 56 lakh was destroyed here this morning at the KMC dumping side in pursuance with an order of District & Session Judge Kohima.
The quantity of seized IMFL (in connection with 5 registered cases) which destroyed today included; beer- 621 cases, rum- 942 cases and 20 cases of whisky, worth over Rs. 39 lakhs.
Further, 2860 kgs of seized contraband Ganja (in connection with 11 registered cases) that burnt down today worth approximately Rs. 17 lakhs, source said.
The same was destroyed by using JCB in the presence of M.T. Therieh, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kohima, Vikyato, APP, APSI Medothi Chakhesang, police court personnel, representatives from Naga Mother’s Association including media persons.
Meanwhile, expressing unhappiness over the implementation of Total Prohibition Act in the state, NMA’s president Abeiu Meru called for amendment of the Act so as to ensure effective enforcement of the Act.
“Being a dry state over a period of decade it is shame for all of us,” she said and called for cooperation of the public as well.
On the other hand, she praised Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on his recent assurance in the budget session to continue prohibition in the state. She, however, opined that the Act has to be amended. She appealed to the state government to amend the Prohibition Act and ensure the concerned department takes stringent action.
