Kohima Police to crack down on unauthorised vehicle modifications

Kohima, June 5 (MExN): The Kohima Police has notified that any modification to a vehicle deviating from the manufacturer's specifications constitutes a violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and related regulations.

Accordingly, it urged vehicle users as well as the general public to ensure that their vehicles adhere strictly to approved specifications and avoid modifications not explicitly permitted.

In an advisory, the Kohima Police stated that prohibited modifications specifically include alteration of exhaust systems (notably in two-wheelers) and the retrofitment of excessively bright or non-standard LED lights.

The prohibited modifications also include the unauthorised installation of sirens or blinkers, and the application of tinted films that reduce visibility on windshields and windows.

The Kohima Police will intensify enforcement against these violations and rigorously implement these provisions in the coming days, the advisory further informed.

Any vehicle found contravening the Act will be liable to seizure, and the owner or operator will face legal consequences as prescribed by law, it added.
