DIMAPUR, JUNE 11 (MExN): Lotha GB’s Union, Dimapur commemorated its sixth year of foundation on Saturday, June 11. Hosted at the Lotha Hoho Ki, near DC court junction, the occasion was graced by Parliamentary Secretary for Geology & Mining, Irrigation & Flood Control Y. Patton as the chief guest.
Addressing the assembly Patton, a former chairman of the Lotha Hoho Dimapur, reminded the gathering of mostly elderly men in red to realize that they have been entrusted with a great responsibility to foster unity and goodwill in their respective villages and localities. Hence, the headmen were urged to acknowledge, with humility and commitment, the respect and authority they have been bestowed with by the people. As ‘father of the village’, Patton called upon the headmen to keep themselves free from unwanted and lowly social activities and lead by example.
Observing a rather less than satisfactory turnout at the celebration, Patton urged the leaders from the community to be more forthcoming and make their presence felt on important occasion such as today.
Among the Nagas, Lothas are becoming economically backward due, in part, the elected representatives are not given a second chance to prove their merit by the electors, Patton averred. To further aid development, Patton urged the gathering to give more terms in office to those leaders who can work for the people. In this regard, he said that ‘gaonburrahs’ can play a significant role by helping guide the people to elect leaders whose sole objective is not only development but also building confidence in people. He appealed the GBs to extend their support to the present four elected legislators from Wokha.
Others who spoke on the occasion included, Dr. John Murry, chairman of the Lotha Hoho Dimapur, president of the Lotha Students’ Union Dimapur and chairperson Kyong Women’s Union Dimapur.
