Dimapur, June 9 (MExN): The Inter-Religious and Interfaith Initiative, a collective of different religious and faith traditions in Manipur has appealed for calm and to end violence in the state.
A press release issued by the Inter-Religious and Interfaith Initiative, Convener, Deben Bachaspatimayum stated that an interfaith meeting was held June 5 in the premises of Manipur Cultural Integration Council (MCIC), Imphal East.
Altogether 18 religious leaders belonging to different religions and faith traditions including Manipuri Vaishnaba Gouriya Sampradaya, Islam, Christians, Art of Living attended the meeting and resolved to issue appeal to end the ongoing violence. Further, it resolved to take up joint initiatives to provide healing and caring services to all victims of violence in Manipur by inviting participation and involvement of religious leaders from all faith traditions, the release stated.
“This violence has made all of us, across different religious communities and faith traditions, equally helpless and anguished,” the organisation stated and added, “it is this shared helplessness and anguish that has encouraged and brought all of us together to jointly appeal for ending this violence.”
Therefore, it appealed to all, on all sides, to calm down and leave the violence behind. “This is to save and protect our present and future generations from the terror of this violence that is mutually destroying humanity,” it stated and also “pray together to the God we each believe for early healing and recovery of the humanity that is slipping out of our hands, every day.”
