Shillong, March 18 (NNN): Meghalaya Chief minister Conrad K Sangma said on Wednesday that the situation of coronavirus in the world and other parts of the country is alarming and stressed on the need to be serious in taking precautionary measures without creating panic and discomfort.
The chief minister was holding a video conference meeting with the deputy commissioners and medical officers of all the districts of Meghalaya to take a stock of the preparedness in containing COVID 19.
At the meeting, the chief minister said participation of the local headmen and the community and closely monitoring the situation in the State for the next 15 days is crucial.
The meeting discussed mandatory screening and monitoring of people who come from outside the country and other parts of the country, setting up of isolation wards, medical volunteers, stock of essential commodities, testing centres and the logistics and setting up of control rooms at the district and state level.
The meeting also stressed on the need to disseminate awareness on hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette and social distancing.
Also present during the meeting were Health minister AL Hek, Home minister Lahkem Rymbui and Food and Civil Supplies minister James K Sangma.
