DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 16 (MExN): Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir attended the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) meeting held at Maligaon, Guwahati, on October 14, along with other Members of Parliament from the Northeastern states. The meeting reviewed and discussed the progress of various ongoing railway projects in the region.
During the deliberation, the Railway Board informed that the Molvom–Pherima section (14.09 km) is expected to be commissioned by December 2026, while the Pherima–Zubza section (36.79 km) is targeted for completion by December 2028, a press statement issued by the Media Officer to the Lok Sabha MP informed.
The NFR also confirmed the upgradation of Dimapur Railway Station, stating that the Master Plans and Design Basis Report for the RCC and steel structures have been approved, with the project scheduled for completion by June 30, 2028. However, officials cited encroachment issues within the station premises, including shops, houses, dhabas, and temples, as major obstacles and sought the intervention of the State Government for timely completion of the work, the statement read.
The Railway Authority further assured the MP of complete development works at Shokhuvi and Molvom stations. It was also informed that preparatory works for the commencement of passenger train services in the Amguri–Tuli section under Mokokchung district have been identified.
Jamir requested the Railway Authority to consider the construction of the Dimapur–Tizit railway line and to examine the proposed foothill railway route from Dimapur via Niuland to Bhandari in Wokha district.
The MP also urged the NFR to reintroduce the discontinued 6 AM Nagaland Express service between Dimapur and Guwahati and to install Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) at Dimapur station. He further appealed to the railway authorities to ensure that recruitment notifications for railway employment in Nagaland are publicised through proper channels.
