Nagaland educators urged to be ‘catalysts of change’

The Nagaland Government Higher Secondary School Employees Association (NGHSSEA) held its General Conference 2026 under the theme ‘Catalyzing educational transformation’ at Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima on August 22. 

Addressing the conference, NGHSSEA President Yekavi Swu said that with the coming of NEP 2020, the educational system of administration and every area of the teaching profession have changed drastically by leaps and bounds.

Observing the changing role of teacher, which has transitioned beyond the classroom, he said, “A teacher is now expected to not only be a role model for the students, but to be an educator and a facilitator.”

Swu also reminded the department the desire of the higher secondary cadre. “Let's continue to work together and be a catalyst of change, now and in the days to come,” he said.

Presently, NGHSSEA has strength of 779 employees.

The event was graced by Nagaland School Education Advisor Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome as the guest of honour. Nagaland School Education Principal Director Shashank Pratap Singh, School Education Director Razouseyi Vese, Additional Director Deenabandhu Panda and several other officials also attended the conference.

The conference also witnessed presentation of awards to toppers and exceptional performance of Government Higher Secondary Schools.

The programme was chaired by NGHSSEA vice president Dr Visielie while NGHSSEA report was given by Dr Meno Thorie, Information & Publicity secretary NGHSSEA. Vote of thanks was proposed by NGHSSEA joint secretary Rembio Yanthan.
