Nagaland's gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection rebounded in June 2026, rising 6% year-on-year to Rs 88 crore from Rs 83 crore in the corresponding month last year, according to the latest revenue data released by the Union Ministry of Finance.
The June performance marked a recovery from the relatively subdued Rs 64 crore collected in May 2026 (exclusive of GST on import of goods), when the state's GST revenue registered only 1% annual growth.
Collections increased by Rs 24 crore over the previous month, reflecting a rebound after May's seasonal slowdown.
Meanwhile, the State's taxpayer base also continued marginal expansion during the first quarter of 2026-27, increasing from 11,019 in April to 11,502 in May and 11,599 by the end of June.
The June total comprised 4,765 taxpayers administered by the Central GST authorities and 6,834 by the State GST authorities.
Overall, the taxpayer base grew by 483 registrations between April and May, it increased by a further 97 registrations during June, indicating that the month's higher GST collections were driven more by stronger tax realisation than by a significant increase in new registrations.
Separately, Nagaland's cumulative post-settlement SGST stood at Rs 339 crore at the end of June 2026, compared with Rs 344 crore during the corresponding period of the previous financial year, a decline of 1%.
The figure represents the state's own State GST (SGST) collections from transactions within Nagaland, along with its share of Integrated GST (IGST) or the tax collected on goods and services traded between states, which is subsequently distributed to the states where the goods or services are consumed.
Nagaland's GST performance in the first quarter of 2026-27 has followed a record start, a seasonal slowdown and a June rebound.
The state recorded its highest-ever monthly GST collection of Rs 122 crore in April before collections eased to Rs 64 crore in May, reflecting the seasonal moderation typically seen after the close of the financial year.
Collections recovered to Rs 88 crore in June, an increase of Rs 24 crore over May and 6% higher than a year earlier.
While Nagaland's gross GST collection for June stood at Rs 88 crore, the State ultimately received Rs 110 crore in post-settlement revenue (SGST collections plus IGST settlements), denoting an increase of 2% over Rs 108 crore in June last year.
Nationally, gross GST collections rose to Rs 1,94,812 crore in June 2026, registering a 13.9% year-on-year increase from Rs 1,71,105 crore in June 2025. The growth was led by a 34.6% surge in GST collected on imports, while gross domestic GST revenue grew 6.5%.
The robust June performance followed a comparatively modest increase in May, when gross GST collections grew 3.2% year-on-year. The Finance Ministry said the headline 3.2% growth in May understated the underlying trend as May 2025 included a one-time payment of about Rs 10,000 crore by a telecom operator towards spectrum allocation.
Adjusted for this, gross GST collections grew 9%, domestic gross GST revenue 5%, and net GST revenue 10.1%
