Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival conferred national award

New Delhi, September 13 (MExN): The Hornbill Festival, Nagaland was awarded the ‘Silver Banyan Award for Best Cultural Music & Dance’ by THE WEEK, Heritage Awards during a function held at New Delhi on September 13.

The award was presented by Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, at a ceremony held here. Sharon Longchari, Joint Resident Commissioner of Nagaland House in New Delhi, received the award on behalf of the state government.

The Heritage Awards aim to recognise efforts in protecting, preserving, and promoting the country’s rich heritage. The awards feature multiple categories, including Historical Tourism, Heritage Tourism, Best Tourist Circuit, Pilgrimage and Spiritual Tourism, Traditional Skills, and Best Travel Operator, among others.

The Hornbill Festival, often referred to as the ‘Festival of Festivals’, is held annually in Kisama from December 1 to 10. It brings together the diverse tribes of Nagaland to celebrate their traditional music, dance, crafts, and cuisine, stated a press release issued by PRO NH, New Delhi.
