
MALIGAON, JULY 25 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has announced an increase in the frequency of two pairs of passenger trains operating between Silchar and Maishashan, enhancing connectivity in the region.
According to an official release, the frequency of train numbers 55662/55661 and 55686/55685 (Silchar–Maishashan–Silchar) has been increased from two days a week to six days a week, effective from July 28, 2025.
Train no. 55662/55661 will now operate six days a week (except Friday) in both directions, while train no. 55686/55685 will run six days a week (except Sunday) from both ends.
NFR stated that the move aims to improve daily or near-daily travel access for commuters, traders, students, and office-goers between the two locations. The enhanced frequency is also expected to facilitate smoother movement of small traders, agricultural produce, and essential goods, thereby boosting the local economy.
