Chekrovolü Swüro
DIMAPUU, AUGUST 8 (MExN): The Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) has congratulated Chekrovolü Swüro on being elected as the President of the Nagaland Archery Association.
“A name that resonates deeply within India’s sporting circles, Chekrovolü is not only one of Nagaland’s most accomplished athlete but also a trailblazer for Indian archery,” the NOA said in a statement on Friday.
Swüro represented India at the London 2012 Olympic Games, becoming the second Naga athlete to reach the Olympics. She was honoured with the Arjuna Award, one of India’s highest sporting honours, and is also the recipient of Nagaland’s highest sports honour, the Dr. T. Ao Award.
Throughout her career, she was a consistent member of the Indian National Archery team, winning laurels at prestigious international competitions including the World Championships and the Asian Games. Notably, she was part of the Indian team that won the Archery World Cup Gold Medal in Shanghai in 2011, “marking [a] proud moment for the country and for Nagaland,” the statement said.
Her election as the first woman President of the Nagaland Archery Association was described as “a moment of pride and progress not just for archery but as a reflection of the growing role of women in sports leadership.”
The NOA said that as someone who has experienced the journey of an elite athlete first-hand, her “insights and experience will be invaluable in shaping the future of the sport.” It added that her leadership will “open new avenues for young archers and further reinforce Nagaland’s position on the national sporting map.”
“We look forward to working together to support the growth of archery and to strengthen the wider sporting ecosystem of the state,” the NOA said, wishing her “every success” in the new role.
