Mokokchung, July 11 (MExN): The Naga People's Front (NPF) on July 10 stepped up its organisational restructuring in Nagaland's 29 Jangpetkong Assembly Constituency by administering the oath of allegiance to office-bearers of the revamped party units at Waromung village and Alongkima town following the merger of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) with the NPF earlier this year.

The oath was administered by 29 Jangpetkong Assembly Constituency NPF president Aodangnok Ozukum in the presence of local MLA and Advisor for Transport and Technical Education Temjenmenba. NPF flags were also hoisted at the residences of the respective unit treasurers.

The organisational exercise follows the merger of the NDPP with the NPF in May, necessitating a restructuring of party units in the constituency where both regional parties previously had a strong presence.

Addressing the programmes, party leaders said the reorganisation required "sacrifices and accommodations" from members of both parties and appreciated local leaders for facilitating the transition in the interest of the constituency's development under the leadership of Temjenmenba and Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio.

The programmes assumed significance as Alongkima serves as the Extra Assistant Commissioner's headquarters for the Jangpetkong range, while Waromung is among the largest villages in the constituency with a sizeable electorate. Party leaders said the oath-taking and flag-hoisting symbolised the end of political differences between the erstwhile NDPP and NPF units at the grassroots.

Speaking at both events, Temjenmenba highlighted developmental priorities for the constituency, including preparations for the 100th anniversary of the Ao Students' Conference to be held at Waromung village.

Referring to the poor condition of roads in the area, he said the chief minister had accorded priority to the issue and sanctioned funds for road construction.

On the political front, Temjenmenba said both the NDPP and NPF were regional parties and maintaining two separate regional parties was not in the larger interest of the Nagas. He said the merger was aimed at promoting and protecting the identity and interests of the Naga people through a united regional political platform.

He urged party workers, particularly at the grassroots level, to remain politically active, saying an elected representative could effectively serve the people only with the support and cooperation of the electorate.

Administering the oath, Ozukum congratulated the newly inducted office-bearers and said the oath was not merely a formality but a commitment to uphold party principles, work for the interests of the party and the people, and remain loyal to the party leadership.

He said the constituency unit would undertake similar oath-taking and flag-hoisting programmes in other party units to further strengthen the NPF organisation ahead of the next Assembly election.
