NPO terms interference in NH-39 as serious

DIMAPUR, MARCH 29 (MExN): The Naga People’s Organization (NPO) of Tahamzam (formerly Senapati) district expressed resentment over what it called “frequent disturbances and obstruction” in the smooth implementation of the on-going NH-39 improvement process.
“Reports and findings of repeated threats and illegal activities looming around the agency especially the workers has hampered and delayed the NH-39 works,” the Naga organization stated through a release issued by M. Dili, President, NPO.
It appealed “for collective co-operation” and cautioned that “it will not compromise any such irrational activities at the expense of a good National Highway” in the district.
It demanded that “the concerned Organization/Group/Individuals to cease all such activities immediately.”
The NPO recalled how because of the student group SDSA’s repeated intervention in the past five years, New Delhi had sanctioned for fully developing the said highway with full blacktopping and not mere repairing works.
“Hence, 2(two) Hot mix-plants, Engines, Stone Crushers and other heavy machineries were installed to complete the said works before the arrival of the monsoon. Unfortunately, till date even after 2 months of works progressing, some Organization/groups continue to indulge into heavy taxations and threats to the ongoing works,” it rued.
The NPO said through the media, it had repeatedly appealed for co-operation in accelerating the NH-39 works. However, “till today, some elements continue to insist on threats and withdrawal of the workforce from the site.”
Today, it made another appeal to all concerned for problem-free improvement process of the lifeline. “Failing to respect repeated sincere appeals, the NPO will not co-operate such Organization/groups in the future,” it stated.
