The NSCN-K (Yung Aung) claimed it carried out an attack on an Assam Rifles post in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district coinciding with the Republic Day celebrations across the country.
A press statement from the Naga Political Group’s (NPG) Ministry of Information and Publicity described the hit as a “massive attack” on a Company Operating Base of the 40 AR, close to the Indo-Myanmar border. It said, “This morning at around 8 AM, the Naga Army tactical Unit carried out a massive attack on the 40 Assam (Rifles) Camp stationed at Ranglom village under Changlang district of so-called Arunachal Pradesh.”
It claimed that the extent of casualties inflicted could not be ascertained as the security forces, following the attack, placed the area under “lock down” to hide their losses. It went on to allege that the security forces retaliated by venting their frustration, harassing the public of the area.
Terming the attack as a necessary step in the defence of the land, it expressed regret for the public suffering as a consequence of the attack.
It said that the NSCN-K (Yung Aung) remains steadfast in its mission defending against “imperialist designs.”
According to the statement, operations against what it termed as occupational forces and their secret agencies will continue.
Condemns Jan 23 killing
In a separate statement, the MIP condemned the January 23 incident in Tizit, Mon, when one of its members, Major Manwang Leipha Konyak was killed. The NSCN-K (Yung Aung) attributed the killing to the rival NSCN-K (Angmai-Mulatonu) group, while it claimed that the assailants were led by one Brigadier Noktha. According to it, the victim was unarmed and on medical leave at the time of the incident, following his release from jail last month.
The note further alleged that the rival faction is conducting “secret killings” in coordination with state agencies to target NSCN-K (Yung Aung) members.
While it expressed condolences to the family, it announced the promotion of the victim to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel posthumously.
