In a proactive move to promote traffic awareness and responsible driving, Phek Superintendent of Police Dr Pritpal Kaur, led a cycling rally on January 29 to mark the ongoing Road Safety Month.
The initiative, which saw the participation from police officers, aimed to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the public while highlighting life-saving transit rules.
The rally commenced from Phek Town, with participants pedaling approximately 8 kilometers to Phek Village.
Upon arrival, the team engaged in an interactive session with Phek Village Council members and local school students.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Kaur emphasized the critical pillars of road safety. She spoke extensively on the mandatory use of helmets, the dangers of mobile phone usage and distracted driving, and the strict “no drink and drive” policy.
Furthermore, she educated the attendees on the legal provisions of the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act and highlighted the “Good Samaritan Law,” which protects citizens who assist victims of road accidents.
Supporting the police initiative, Phek Village Council chairman Chivozo Soho made an appeal to the local youth to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations to ensure personal safety and the safety of others on the road.
The 8km route, successfully brought the message of road discipline to the forefront of the community.
