Indiscriminate felling of trees, and very big logs, like the one viewed here, at the ongoing road connectivity constructions under Prime Minister Gram Samaj Yojana (PMGSY) underway from the Shiroy village to Zingsui/Mapum villages has caused concern among the villagers, with regard to the degradation of the natural Ecological imbalance. Ukhrul | April 19 : A very ‘special boon’ has been granted to the village folks of the remote and far flung neglected villages of Zingsui/Mapum, with the ongoing village road connectivity constructions under Prime Minister Gram Samaj Yojana (PMGSY) underway from the Shiroy village to Zingsui/Mapum villages 30 kilometers distance. The villagers of the extreme border villages used to travel by taking the long semi-circle or curved distance roads in the Highway of Ukhrul to Kamjong, which takes more than 60 kilometers, but now they (villagers) can easily travel.
However, a serious point that should be considered in future by the Government of India is to take-up prompt “protective measures” in regard to the degradation of the natural Ecological imbalance causing the unprecedented loss of natural resources and global warming condition. The villagers of Shiroy and the people of Ukhrul District (Tangkhul Community) in general has more than 1.8 lacs people in around some 300 conglomerate villages and the reality is that Ukhrul District main town and adjoining large villages get the drinking water life-line source from Shiroy Peak water points.
In an exclusive press conference held, and attended by Shiroy village Headmen and their sub-ordinates Village authorities, 15 village authorities including the Speaker of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) Mr. Rock as being a villager.
Ngatankhui Wungzek, one of the village headmen noted that the coming of the PMGSY road connectivity brings a “destructive development” for the people of the Shiroy village people and Tangkhul Community people collectively, due to the reason that with the coming of the new road connectivity, there is an indiscriminate felling of trees, big and very big logs and stone quarrying in the virgin forest of Shiroi village and also hunting of jungle meat for business endeavors by the owners of the resources, land and areas. Achan Shang, the other Headman also asserted the same.
M. Paoshim, treasurer of the VA asserted that the most needed point of the hour is to bring the policy of “cut one tree, plant ten” from the Government side. A. S Mathotmi, Village auditor deliberated in his point of view that there is more demerit weightage in regard to the PMGSY road construction underway, stressing the point of future with the loss of the virgin forest of Shiroy Village natural resources due to the indiscriminate cutting down of trees and others causing to lead the loss of the “purest form of Shiroi” water resources available in the “Virgin Forest” when there is automatically no trees in the forest and the rapid rise of global warming.
The collective point of view from the two Headmen and the Sub-Ordinate Village authorities was cohesively shared on focusing the vivid and firm stands to protect the village “Virgin Forest” in the interest and benefit of the Tangkhul Community at large, and appealed through the media dissemination urging to make sure in granting monetary assistances towards the owners of the trees, forest, lands or natural resources so that these private owners could or pursued by the Villages people and authorities to never ever cut down the trees and quarrying stones and other natural resources that will harm to reduction the natural resources of the "Virgin Forest" used or benefitted by the Ukhrul District communities in the interest of the larger and better future.
The participants and the village authorities and the villagers vehemently abide to agree that the Progressive PMGSY road connectivity which is near incompletion stage in regard to the first cutting cannot be stopped or restricted by any one so on and so forth.
