
DIMAPUR, APRIL 1 (MExN): Five persons, including a woman, were arrested by the police and the Assam Rifles for crimes relating to arms, extortion and illicit drugs in the past few days. A press note from the Additional Superintendent of Police, Dimapur stated.
Two held with arms
One Tokishe was arrested by the police on March 29 for possessing an illegal weapon. According to the note from the Additional SP, police had raided a house located at Nagarjan in connection with a case registered at East Police Station. During the raid one 7.65 pistol with three rounds was recovered from the house. On questioning, the owner of the house revealed that the weapon belonged to him, the note stated. The man was immediately arrested and the weapon seized while a case under the Arms Act was registered.
In a separate incident, personnel of the 24 Assam Rifles while conducting security checking at Burma Camp confiscated one 7.65 pistol with eight rounds from a person. The man was identified as one Agou Kuki, a self styled ‘sergeant’ in the GPRN/NSCN and later handed over to the police.
One held for extortion
One man identified as a Tohoshe Sema was arrested by the police on March 24, while he was extorting money from a tailor at Church Road. The note stated that the man claiming to be an ‘underground worker’ demanded a sum of Rs. 2000 from the tailor. The tailor fearing for his life parted with Rs. 500. The extorted amount was also recovered by the police and a case of extortion registered against the arrested.
Banned drugs, ’ganja’ seized
GRPS personnel during a check conducted at the Dimapur Railway platform recovered 2000 capsules of Spasmo proxyvon and 500 tablets of Nitrosun (both banned drugs) from a woman on April 1. The woman, identified as one Asbina Begum (20 years) of Morigaon, Assam was booked under the NDPS Act.
On March 25 police personnel manning the Chumukedima check post confiscated 160 kilograms of ‘ganja’ from a ‘black Scorpio’ (NL 01 H 0250). The contraband was bound for Dimapur. One A. Pavu Poumai (27 years) was arrested and a case registered under the NDPS Act.
