Demurrage and Wharfage charges rules relaxed

 

Guwahati, March 28 (MExN): The Ministry of Railways has decided to further liberalise the ticket refund rules in view of extension of the cancellation of passenger train services on entire Indian Railways and in continuation of the measures taken in the wake of COVID-19 till midnight of April 14.

 

A press release from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) informed that the Ministry of Railways now decided to give full refund for all ticket for the journey period from March 21 to April 14.]

 

This instruction will be in addition to and in continuation of the relaxations in refund rules already announced, it added.  

 

The procedure for grant of refunds will be as follows:

 

For counter booked PRS tickets:

A) Tickets already cancelled prior to issue of this revised guidelines: TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) to be filled by the passenger with journey details to Chief Commercial Manager (Claims) or Chief Claims Officer of any Zonal Railway Head Quarters upto the period of June 21 for availing balance refund amount.

 

B) Tickets cancelled after issue of this modified order: full refund will be payable in respect to all such cancellations.

 

For E-Tickets:

A) For tickets cancelled prior to issue of this modified instructions: Balance refund amount will be credited to the account of the passenger from which the ticket was booked.

 

B) Tickets cancelled after issue of this modified instructions: Full refund will be paid in respect of all such cancellations.

 

Moreover, the Ministry of Railways has decided for relaxation in Demurrage and Wharfage charges rules till March 31 by enforcing Force Majeure clause for goods being carried by train. A Force Majeure means extraordinary events or circumstance beyond human control.

 

Meanwhile, freight train operations are being continued 24x7 by NFR to ensure the supply essential commodities. Essential staffs of NFR are working day and night to run freight train services throughout its jurisdiction ferrying essential commodities like salt, sugar, food-grains, petroleum products etc for public distribution system.

 

NFR is also carrying items like potatoes, milk, vegetables, fertilizers and food-grains transported by private businessmen so that there is no shortage of these commodities in market for the need of common people.

 

On March 27, coal was loaded from Ledo for use in the Farakka Super Thermal Power Project, West Bengal while items like Rice, Potato and other mixed items were unloaded in various good sidings like Tinsukia, Jorhat, Furketing in Tinsukia division.
