DCCI clarifies

Dimapur, May 3 (MExN):
The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) today issued a note seeking to clear the controversy surrounding its recent elections.
According to a note from executive member Azo, a drafting committee was constituted “for forming its constitution” and a core group of 25 executive members was selected from the business community with the objective of “establishing the DCCI”.  Meetings were convened repeatedly, the note stated but “vested interest began to interfere” and the election of the DCCI office bearers also began to take political overtones with the involvement of “the establishment”.
“Therefore, a notice was published calling for a meeting of the business community on 2nd May 2011. In the meeting, all the 25 executive members of the DCCI and many from the business community were present. The meeting was unanimous in its opinion that vested interests, including political and governmental interference in the offices of the DCCI should not be allowed,” the DCCI note stated.
The DCCI said it took a decision to adopt the constitutions and elect Kasheto Yepthomi as the DCCI president.
“It is unfortunate that vested interests persist with their questionable action by resorting to press publications and as per the resentment given by the various unions, the DCCI would like to clarify that only after the completion of its registration we can invite unions legally to be a member or unions can even be affiliated to the DCCI i.e., if they wish to,” the DCCI stated.
“We urge all right-thinking citizens not to be swayed by such propaganda. We assure you that DCCI is keen to serve the people and to fight many malaises plaguing business in Dimapur town.”
