Reliance General Insurance Company Limited (RGICL) has been appointed as the Implementing Insurer for the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana–Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (AB PMJAY–CMHIS) in Nagaland.

The RGICL has reportedly been roped in for the policy period from May 1, 2025 to April 30, 2026.

Though there was no official update from the Nagaland Health Protection Society (NHPS), the agency implementing AB PM-JAY CMHIS in the State, a Health Department official confirmed the development to The Morung Express on Tuesday.

This follows a short tender issued by the NHPS on April 5 to select a new insurer after the State Government’s contract with Future Generali India Insurance Co. Ltd expired on April 1.

The selection process concluded with the award of contract scheduled for April 22 and signing on April 24.

The transition comes amid ongoing discontent among private healthcare providers.

The Nagaland Private Doctors’ Association (NPDA), citing continued non-payment of dues under the previous insurer, has reiterated its decision to withdraw from both AB PM-JAY and CMHIS from April 17 unless immediate steps are taken to release payments.

Thereafter, the NHPS informed that cashless healthcare services under the AB PM-JAY CMHIS are continuing in all government hospitals within Nagaland, as well as at the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), despite the ‘temporary disruption’ of services in private hospitals in the State.

All empanelled hospitals located outside Nagaland under CMHIS and AB PM-JAY are also providing uninterrupted services, it added.

It is unclear whether the private Empanelled Health Care Providers (EHCPs) have resumed their services in Nagaland or whether further negotiation is required to resolve the payment issue. Further details are waited.
