Kohima, June 21 (MExN): In celebration of World Music Day Tseminyu 2026, the Youth Ministry of Council of Rengma Baptist Churches in collaboration with TaFMA Tseminyu, organised the 'Rengma Khwi-Lyü’ Competition' on June 20 at Kithagha Union Baptist Church.
The event, featuring Solo and Quartet categories, was organised with the objective of promoting and preserving the Rengma language through music, encouraging the creation of original Rengma songs, providing a platform for local artists to showcase their talents, and using music as a medium to honour and glorify God.
While the Solo Category featured original Rengma compositions, the Quartet Category featured songs translated into the Rengma dialect.
In the Solo Category, Helole Jishing emerged as the winner while Akenyu Semp secured the runner-up position.
In the Quartet Category, The Peers were declared winners, with Charity Band finishing as runners-up.
The 'Best Song Award (Solo Category)' was awarded to the song "Zegwari", composed by Jonathan Mesen.
Tuner 21 received the 'Emerging Artist Award', while G-ONE won the Best Song Award in the Quartet Category.
Earlier, the programme was graced by Rev. Haiwalo Apon, Executive Secretary, CRBC.
The competition was judged by Obed Kath (Divine Connection), Senti Semy (Cotton Country), and Sosin Naomi Kent, Music Director, Rengma Baptist Church Kohima.
Meanwhile, the organisers expressed gratitude to all participants, judges, sponsors, and supporters for making the programme a success and hoped that the initiative would inspire the creation of more original Rengma songs while encouraging the younger generation to preserve and promote the Rengma language and cultural heritage through music.
