Kiphire | June 11 : The first meeting cum skill development programme of the SHG federation for Kiphire district was held at Hopongky Memorial Hall today with C.M Tsanglao, DC Kiphire and Sonnie President, Dhansipar Block SHG Federation as the speakers.
DC Kiphire said, “God doesn’t help those who do not help themselves. In Nagaland SHG are self style, but the main motive of SHG is to eradicate poverty.” He encouraged the SHGs in the district to work with this objective and asked them not to be form SHG for the “sake of forming.” On learning that there are altogether 180 SHGs in the district, the DC expressed surprise and out across the question as to ‘what the SHG are doing?’ because he has not observed much activities going on in the district by the groups.
Calling upon the SHGs the DC also added, “There should be no communication gap between groups and they should work together.” The DC also encouraged them to keep a motto for the SHGs without which the group will not achieve their goal. He also exhorted them saying that SHG is for the poorest of the poor and they should work accordingly for the benefit of the society.
President, Dhansipar Block SHG federation, Sonnie who also spoke on the occasion stated that if any SHG is formed with an intention of getting assistance, it will lead to nowhere but if it is formed with positive attitude it will be successful.
“Nagas always look for shortcut because of which developmental activities are also going wrong,” she said while adding that ‘the mind set of the Nagas should so that positive development comes to Nagaland’.
She also added that all Naga problem, be it in church or social, is related to economy. Therefore, SHG should work to reform economy. She encouraged then to pick up private sector through SHG.
Earlier, caretaker of SHG federation Kiphire district Chopiba Z. Thonger while giving an address of the meeting said that the objective to form the federation is to know the right of SHG and to fight for it.
He also added the Federation will fight for BPL. Sepithrong caretaker SHG federation Kiphire block delivered the vote of thanks. Altogether 47 SHG from Kiphire district attended the meeting.
