Kohima, August 25 (MExN): In a major political development, three elected councillors of Indian National Congress (INC) from Chümoukedima and Tuli Town Councils joined the Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Tuesday.
The induction ceremony, held at the NPF Central Office, Kohima in the presence of Advisor and Secretary General, NPF, Achumbemo Kikon, a press release from the Press Bureau of NPF stated.
Those switching allegiance are K Wati Imchen, Ward No. 08, Chümoukedima Town Council, Temsumenba Imsong, Ward No. 06, Tuli Town Council, and K Imlitemjen Jamir, Ward No. 08, Tuli Town Council.
Addressing the gathering, Kikon welcomed their decision as “bold and timely” and reiterated the party’s unwavering focus on the Naga political issue, which he said remains the cornerstone of NPF’s agenda. “Regionalism and the spirit of ‘Naganess’ form the very core of our identity. The NPF shall continue to stand for and pursue the collective interests and aspirations of the Naga people across boundaries through peaceful and democratic means,” he asserted.
He also emphasised that the party’s long-standing movement is rooted in safeguarding Naga identity, culture, and heritage.
Senior Vice Presidents N Bendang Jamir and Charlie Sekhose, along with Vice President (Organisation & Establishment) Benjamin Lorin, also addressed the function. They expressed confidence that the induction of the three councillors would reinforce the party’s presence at the grassroots level in their respective constituencies.
The event was attended by senior party functionaries, central office-bearers, and supporters of the newly inducted leaders.
