The opening ceremony of the Tokhu Emong-cum-Mini Hornbill Festival 2026 was held at the Public Ground, Wokha, on November 4, with Lotha Hoho Chairman Er Mhondamo Ovung highlighting the significance of the festival in preserving the community’s cultural identity and heritage.

Addressing the gathering, Ezung spoke on the perceived contradiction between Christianity and the celebration of traditional festivals.

He clarified that Tokhu Emong was not intended to contradict religious beliefs but to preserve the roots, identity, culture and heritage of the Lotha community, just as other Naga tribes celebrate their respective traditional festivals.
