Ukhrul | May 3 : The most interesting news currently in Ukhrul town is the coming of remittance (salary) for the people. People of Ukhrul town are considering today, May 2 as ‘the best day’ with the news that remittance has arrived in Ukhrul State Bank of India (SBI) specially meant to be allotted for the various Departments in Ukhrul District.
The coming of salary in Ukhrul is not as simple or convenient as compared to other places. The process of storing or collecting the huge amount is done in a "fool proof" or tight security arrangement. Money packages are lifted from Ukhrul Somsai Assam Riffles with adequate security arrangement and later stored in the SBI Ukhrul Branch with beefed-up security within the wide parameters of the Bank premises.
The people of Ukhrul, especially the Government employees are so far considered the fortunate ones on hearing the news. But it is not only the Government servant but the common men, farmers, skilled and un-skilled labourers and the businessmen, money lenders too who are glad. Because when the Government employees get their salaries, which is not regular in most of the Ukhrul Departments', the employees get the payment of the salaries for three or four months at a time and hence the employees clears the dues in the shops, repays the loan amounts taken in percentage interests for the family management before the months the Government disperse the salaries.
