General Advisory
1. Clean field boundaries and remove alternate weed hosts to reduce pest/ disease pressure.
2. Procure quality seeds from reliable sources to ensure genetic purity and vigor.
3. Use light traps for early detection and monitoring of insect pests and Pheromone trap for management of insect pest.
4. Arrange and apply biopesticides (eg., Trichoderma, Beauveria and neem oil) during calm, windless days.
5. Neem oil Spray can be applied to manage sucking pests and leaf-eating insects.
6. Maintain field sanitation through regular cleaning to prevent build-up of pests and diseases.
7. During rainy period, drainage channels in the orchards are essential to maintain good drainage and to avoid water logging/ stagnation of water.
Entomology – Moanaro Lemtur
1. Install yellow sticky traps in the vegetable field to monitor the pest population levels and to initiate timely management measures.
2. In cowpea, ridge gourd, sponge gourd, and Okra if scrapping, holes or caterpillars are observed on the leaves, spray neem oil @ 2ml/L or Spinosad 45 SC @ 0.75ml/L or Flubendiamide 39.35% SC @ 0.5 ml/L of water during the evening hours.
3. In maize , dust the plants with ash to protect from Fall Army worm and if some white patches or holes with fecal pellets are observed on the leaves spray Neem oil @ 2ml/ L or Spinosad 45 SC @ 0.75ml/L of water during the evening hours.
4. Hang Cue lure Fruit fly trap @ 10 traps/ha in cucumber, Pumpkin, sponge gourd, bitter gourd, bottle gourd and pointed gourd field
5. Hang Methyl Eugenol Fruit fly trap @ 10 traps/ha at 3-5 feet above ground level in mango orchard to attract and trap male fruit flies.
Poultry –Dr. Pedenuo Shuya
1. Ensure that the birds are vaccinated against major diseases like Ranikhet, IBD, fowl pox etc and deworming should be carried out when required.
2. Maintain strict biosecurity with practices like isolation of sick birds and proper disposal of dead birds by deep burial or incineration methods.
3. For laying birds provide a minimum of 16 hours light per day.
4. Proper ventilation is advised for good air circulation removing heat, moisture and ammonia.
Piggery – Dr. Ruth Newmai
1. With rising temperature accompanied by rain, ensure proper drainage of waste water and avoid water stagnation to reduce insect breeding.
2. Wet season increases microbial and parasitic load in the environment. Therefore, use agents like detergents for washing and potassium permanganate, phenol etc for farm sanitation.
3. Limit farm visits and provide foot bath at every shed. Potassium permanganate (1g for 1 litre water) or slaked lime (Chuna) (100g for 1 litre water) can be used in foot baths.
4. Vaccinate against CSF and FMD. Deworm if required.
5. In warmer areas – avoid overcrowding, provide shade from sun, ensure proper ventilation, feed during cooler time of the day, provide cool drinking water throughout the day.
6. In areas with frequent rain, avoid leaving the pen wet and damp by ensuring proper shelter from rain, fixing leakages, ventilating the shed and mopping the floor dry to limit microbial growth due to increase in humidity.
