Ukhrul, April 26 (AGENCIES): The opening ceremony of a week-long Handloom and Handicraft Mela under Ukhrul District Handloom and Handicraft Co-Operation Federation (UDHAHCOF)'s NGO Themsak (skilled) Award day kicked started on April 25 at Ukhrul Town Hall. The opening ceremony was held in a jam-packed hall filled with general public, SHG beneficiaries, NGOs etc.
The Chief Guest K. Indramani Singh, general manager MSCB, Manipur State Society Co-Operative Bank (MSCP) awarded 97 Gold Medalists awardees during the ceremony. The function started from 1:00 am in the morning at Ukhrul Town Hall with the participants exhibiting the skilled or manually made items of different essential items in Tangkhul Naga Traditional Community Handicrafts especially in "outfit wears" and "sculptures”. The indigenous and total pure hand-made items were displayed in 37 exhibition stores under the conglomeration registered societies of altogether 128 Federations, according to Goege Varengnao, Advocate who is one of the leader member teams.
During the ceremony, 34 Gold medals were distributed and now the gold medalist awardees came in total 97 in Ukhrul in regard to this progressive NGO. The stone unveiling of the ceremony was done by Manaketan, Manager, MSCB, Ukhrul Branch.
The first prize was awarded to the Ukhrul UDHAHCOF (SHG) with a cash award of Rs 10,000, second to Themsak Handicraft (SH) group with cash award of Rs 10,000 each and the third was awarded to the Ukhrul Ngarinmi(SHG) with Rs 5,000. Prizes for all the contestants of the exhibition shops were given by and all by the chief guest. During the break, entertainment was presented by Owshim Shongwungnao, Worin,Sharon and Apem party, while action song from Tushar Students.
