DIMAPUR, MAY 31 (MExN): The GPRN/NSCN has stated that the “consumer friendly statements of IM in the last 14 years on the question of Naga sovereignty and political solution is probably one reason why the Naga people, irrespective of status or gender, have allowed themselves to be hunted even inside their own kitchens”. The GPRN/NSCN stated this in a press note issued by the MIP referring to the assassination attempt on May 27 at Kohima.
Predicament of the Nagas has clearly been manifested in the recent assassination attempt on the life of Mrs. Imtila Jamir: GPRN/NSCN
The MIP note stated that the “predicament of the Nagas has clearly been manifested in the recent assassination attempt on the life of Mrs. Imtila Jamir, Retired Registrar, Co-operative Societies”. While stating that the action of the assailants was “utterly demonic and unforgivable, the crux of the problem appears to be the inability of the Nagas in general, organisations and various apex bodies in particular, to point straight finger at the ones committing the crime and also the ones ordering the assassinations in Nagaland”.
The GPRN/NSCN stated that as per eye witnesses of 27th May 2011 incident, it was “sheer miracle that the retired lady escaped from certain death”. Pointing out that Nagas are renowned for their affable personality trait and this, to the advantage of adversaries, seems to have inexplicably controlled the conscience driven Nagas to adopt a defeatist mentality against merciless killers taking shelter in Nagaland. The shocked Watsu Mungdang, Kohima unit expressing their unhappiness in the local dailies is one such example, the MIP note stated adding that it simply mentioned “Worshim Tangkhul” and an accomplice “belonging to certain underground faction”.
“This is extremely unfortunate for a fact that the Watsu Mungdang chose to generalize and blame all National workers for the assassination bid on the lady which, they clearly knew, was committed by IM. In Naga custom and tradition, women are accorded highest respect and assassination of women have never been heard of and Naga history would testify to this fact. Only killers and anti-Naga agents would dare attempt such heinous crime”, stated the GPRN/NSCN.
The GPRN/NSCN further pointed out that in the early 1990’s “IM wiped out the cream of Naga youth; budding entrepreneurs, social activists and potential Naga leaders mainly in the city of Dimapur and Kohima in the name of controlling crime and anti social activities”. Later, assassination attempts on politicians, bureaucrats and businessmen became the order of the day, the MIP note stated. “If the Naga people could observe minutely the course of crimes committed over the decades, there is a sinister plan, a hegemonic agenda being nurtured in the guise of Naga political struggle”.
“What the GPRN/NSCN would like to point out to the Naga people is that solution to the Indo-Naga political problem is beyond the reach of IM. Alternative political arrangement for Naga brethren in Manipur, with UNC representing IM is for all to see. Naga people must have the courage and will to reject illogical propaganda of the day”, the MIP note further stated.
