The Anglers Association Mokokchung (AAM) held its 8th Annual General Meeting-cum-Angling Competition at Nukra Compound, Longmisa Road, on Friday.

Speaking during the programme, AAM executive member S Bur Jamir acknowledged the office bearers for their hard work. He spoke on the evolution of angling in the country and the Northeast, while expressing concern over the declining fish population in Nagaland’s rivers.

He pointed to neighboring countries, Nepal and Bhutan, where angling has contributed to tourism, and said Nagaland could also explore the potential of angling tourism if fish populations and water bodies are properly preserved.

Jamir encouraged members to work towards preserving fish and water resources, noting that such efforts could create opportunities for both angling and tourism in the future.

AAM president Lima Kichu, while briefing the gathering on the association’s activities during its recent tenure, said the association represented Mokokchung at the 8th Nagaland Angling Competition 2026 with three participants, with the participation sponsored by AAM. He added that one of its members also secured a prize at the competition.

The association also organised its 7th Open Angling Competition at Aliba Shiyong Dam on August 8, 2026, besides undertaking other activities during the tenure.

The angling competition held as part of the AGM was won by S Bur Jamir for securing the biggest catch. Bendangnungsang secured the second position, while Maong and Sunep received the first and second consolation prizes respectively.

Founded in 2016 under the motto “Reeling for Sustainability,” AAM currently has around 140 members.
