Peren, April 18 (MExN): The Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR), in collaboration with KNK Ahthibung, organised a one-day awareness programme on ‘Child Rights and Child Protection’ at the Town Hall, Ahthibung Headquarters, Peren district on April 18.
In his keynote address, Alun Hangsing, Chairman of NSCPCR, quoted, “Where children are respected and protected, God resides there.” He stated that children are the backbone of the future and society depends on them, urging responsible citizens to develop positive mental well-being among children.
A short speech was delivered by Thanghao Lenthang, Secretary of Kuki GBs Association Nagaland.
During the technical session, Lichani Murry, Legal Consultant at NSCPCR, spoke on the overview of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, emphasising care, protection, and treatment of children with respect to their rights. She also stressed the process of adoption and the need for a child-friendly approach.
Akumla Longchari, Member of NSCPCR, delivered a session on understanding the POCSO Act and its implementation. She stated that children are the future of society, yet many continue to suffer in silence. She emphasised that the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act is a stringent and comprehensive law designed to safeguard all children below 18 years from sexual abuse and exploitation.
On the Right to Education (RTE), Aying Wangsha, Member of NSCPCR, stressed that all stakeholders including government, educators, parents, churches, and civil societies must work hand in hand to ensure all children are in school, as only through education can children be empowered.
The programme was chaired by Neiting Haokip, Chairperson of KNK Ahthibung. The vote of thanks was delivered by T Sulanthung, SDO (C), Ahthibung Headquarters, Peren.
