Civil Engineering symposium Estribos 2026 held at SJU

Chümoukedima, April 18 (MExN): The Department of Civil Engineering at St Joseph University, Chümoukedima, organised ‘Estribos 2026’, the fifth National Level Technical Symposium, in association with the Institution of Engineers India (IEI) students’ chapter. The event was held under the theme “Fear is incomplete knowledge,” stated a press release. 

Er Meshenlo Kath, Convenor of CTAN, attended as the chief guest and delivered an inspiring address, emphasising the importance of resilience, self-confidence, and continuous learning for career growth. He highlighted civil engineering’s role in nation-building and urged students to embrace innovation alongside professional ethics.

The guest of honour, Er Lumchungla T Sangtam, SDO, PWD (Housing), Kohima, shared insights on technology and governance, encouraging students to think beyond conventional boundaries and harness innovation to address contemporary civil engineering challenges.

 

A major highlight was the launch of ‘Teleiotes 4.0’, the fourth volume of the department’s annual magazine, featuring student articles, faculty research, event reflections, and departmental achievements.

The programme began with the university anthem performed by B.Tech 6th semester students, followed by a welcome address from Reenamol T.X, Head of the Civil Engineering Department. The event was hosted by Erenbemo A Odyuo and Sarah Z Chishi, both B.Tech 4th semester students.

In his presidential address, Dr D Gnanadurai, Vice Chancellor of St Joseph University, commended the department for consistently fostering innovation through platforms like Estribos and urged students to become change-makers by applying knowledge to real-world problems. Lamlipa T Sangtam, President of the Civil Engineering Students’ Association (CESA), proposed the vote of thanks.

The symposium coordinators were NR Manikandan and E Ramesh, Assistant Professors in the Civil Engineering Department. Over 100 students and faculty from various departments attended, along with invited students and faculty from Nagaland Tool Room and Training Centre, Dimapur.
