Nagaland Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla highlighted the transformative strides taken in the health sector through the pioneering flagship initiative of the Government-the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) which extends health insurance coverage to citizens not covered under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
He was addressing the eighth session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) in Kohima on March 2.
Under the CMHIS for employees and pensioners which provides insurance coverage of Rs 20.00 lakhs per family, the total claim payout since inception stands at about Rs 171 crore, benefiting 29,500 individuals.
Under the CMHIS General Category scheme and the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana which provides Rs 5.00 lakhs insurance coverage per family, the combined claim payout has exceeded Rs 218 crore, benefiting over 81,000 individuals since inception.
“We have also taken a significant step towards strengthening of State drugs regulatory mechanism by operationalizing the Nagaland State Drugs Testing Laboratory (NSDTL) in Kohima. We have integrated Nagaland into the National Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) and Materiovigilance Programme of India (MvPI) Network. Our healthcare professionals are being trained to report adverse events, making Nagaland an active contributor to India's Drug and Medical devices safety landscape,” Bhalla said.
Mission Vatsalya scheme
The Social Welfare Department is successfully implementing Mission Vatsalya scheme covering all 17 districts for the care and protection of children. Statutory service delivery mechanisms for Child care, protection and rehabilitation- such as District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) and Child Care Institutions (CCIs) are fully functional, he said.
Under Mission Shakti through Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), more than 6,800 beneficiaries have been paid cash incentives through DBT during FY 2025-2026.
The PHE Department under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), has been successful in providing more than 3.41 lakh Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) raising the coverage to about 94% in the State.
Further, over 1100 villages/habitations have been covered with 100 % FHTC, out of which 806 have been declared “Har Ghar Jal” villages, reflecting sustained efforts towards ensuring safe and adequate drinking water supply to every rural household.
Under Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen Phase–II, the State continues to consolidate the gains of Open Defecation Free (ODF Plus) status by emphasizing sustainability, behavioural reinforcement, and integrated solid and liquid waste management, Bhalla said.
He said that the Tribal Affairs Department under Pradhan Mantri Aadi Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAAGY) has selected 530 villages in the state for various development projects, and till now more than 300 projects have been completed.
Under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DA-JGUA), 74 Blocks and 608 Villages of the State will be covered.
